Spider-Man reboot to be 3D

The proposed Spider-Man reboot, expected to hit cinemas in July 2012, is to be in 3D.
Sony head honcho Jeff Blake says: “Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we’re thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next instalment in 3D.”
The Spider-Man franchise had been subject to scrutiny and much internet debate of late after the news that Sam Raimi, who directed the first three instalments to healthy box office returns, had left the series and been replaced by Marc Webb (500 Days Of Summer). Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and co are also off the new project too which is expected to reboot the series by focussing on Peter Parker as a teenager. There is no word on who will be stepping into the role although Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who previously worked with Webb on ‘Summer’ ,and Zac Efron have been mentioned as candidates.
“Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc’s fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise,” Blake explains.
The 3D revolution, spearheaded particularly by James Cameron whose 3D extravaganza Avatar has become the most successful film of all time and picked up nine Oscar nominations too, is clearly the way Hollywood is heading. The number of new films released in 3D is ever growing, with filmmakers looking at their back catalogue too in relation to the new format. George Lucas is mulling over adapting his Star Wars saga for bespectacled cinemagoers and Peter Jackson is considering a returning to Middle Earth to take his Lord Of The Rings trilogy 3D as well.
