The Flaming Lips have just announced their first UK tour in over three years in support of their new album Embryonic.

10th November – London Troxy
13th November – Portsmouth Guildhall
15th November – Glasgow O2 Academy
16th November – Manchester Academy
17th November – Birmingham Academy

The amazingly talented and very undefinable band (wikipedia says “rock”, but it’s lying) are currently putting the finishing touches to their twelfth album, which is said to be a double-CD. Much of the new material set for inclusion on Embryonic has evolved from extended jam sessions and titles include ‘Convinced of The Hex’, ‘The Impulse’ and ‘Silver Trembling Hands’.

Frontman Wayne Coyne announced today on an American radio station that MGMT and Karen O would be guesting on the record. “We have MGMT doing a song with us and we have Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs doing a couple songs with us. For the Karen O tracks, I just called her up in her hotel room and we just did it right over the telephone. It’s pretty absurd,” he said.

The group’s last record At War With The Mystics earned the Oklahoma trio their second and third Grammy Awards as well as a Brit nomination for Best International Act. It continued the band’s run of critically acclaimed albums that have also included The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots.

Tickets go on sale from 9am 3rd July at £25 London / £20 other dates.
