Bands cancel Benicassim sets as bad weather closes down festival

NME is reporting that extreme weather conditions, particularly strong winds, forced Kings of Leon to cancel their Friday headline slot at Beniccasim.
Wind lashed down on the Spanish festival site over the weekend, with organisers taking precautions such as removing the large video screens beside the Escenario Verdestage and pinning down sections that had come loose. Later on in the evening the weather worsened and some of the smaller stages were cordoned off.
Some nearby campsites were evacuated, with bus-loads of fans taken to a nearby leisure centre for shelter. The sites have since been re-opened, although many fans have returned to find their tents destroyed by the wind.
Lily Allen also cancelled her appearance on Saturday due to illness. It is said that the main festival site reopened on Saturday. We’ve got reporters on site and will be bringing you the latest news when they get home – hopefully all in one piece.
