Robert Downey Jr shines at Comic Con, say critics

Robert Downey Jr: on form at Comic Con
Robert Downey Jr appeared at Comic Con in San Diego over the weekend on panels for his two upcoming films, Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man 2. We’re told by a variety of sources that either spoke to him or sat in on the panels that he was the funniest, kindest and most entertaining guest throughout the whole weekend, provoking lots of laughter among fans and critics alike with his smart alec responses to journalists’ questions.
It was also announced at Comic Con that Robert will be starring alongside Zack Galifianakis (The Hangover) in new comedy Due Date, to be directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover, Starsky & Hutch). Production will begin in October with an anticipated release date of June 2010.
Anyway, back to Comic Con. We weren’t there but we’ve collected a few reports from the event, should you want to take a gander. Variety wrote a little about the Iron Man 2 panel and explains how Robert was only one of three guests to get a standing ovation on Friday during a showing of a clip from Sherlock Holmes. Bob $tencil at First Showing asks the actor a question, the LA Times describes him as “the king of Comic Con”, Entertainment Weekly has laugh-out-loud piece on the showing of footage from Iron Man 2 and Time Magazine describe how Downey Jr got a bigger standing ovation than Megan Fox.
More reports are expected tomorrow.
Here’s an interview conducted by Fandango with Robert Downey Jr. at Comic Con:
Anyway, critics say the footage shown of Sherlock Holmes was almost identical to the trailer. So let’s watch the trailer for the millionth time and pretend we were there:
Sherlock Holmes will be in cinemas on 25th December 2009 via Warner Bros
Iron Man 2 has an expected release date of May 2010 via Marvel Entertainment in association with Universal Pictures
