Dreamworks buys film rights to Wicked book series

Major movie studio Dreamworks has purchased rights to adapt a book series about witches for the big-screen.

Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie’s bestselling book series, which has five parts, follows Holly Cathers, a teenager who discovers that she’s the descendant of a coven of witches.

The first book in the series, titled Witch, will be adapted for screen by Aaron and Matthew Benay. As Empire rightly points out, given the success of Twilight, it’s likely the films will centre on the romantic subplot between Holly and a boy from a rival coven.
